Tourmaline rests inside a coil on this wire-woven silver necklace; the wire wraps the stone and holds it with its own curve. It was worked mold-free — at a workbench in Istanbul's Grand Bazaar, a master with more than thirty years at the bench drew the wire and wove the setting by hand. Because the weave is drawn by hand, the coil never falls the same way on two necklaces.
Tourmaline is traditionally associated with protection. Its name means mixed-colored stone in the language of Sri Lanka; it is carried to keep an intention firm.
